You could be watching the ‘new Barbara Walters’-- with this latest video 'One to One with Gloria' and 15 year old celebrity interviewer, Pavlina Osta, at The Plaza Hotel

“…A lot of people have told me I could be the next Barbara Walters, and that would be awesome…yes, something like that would be really cool.” ~~ Pavlina Osta, Fifteen Year Old Celebrity Interviewer/Journalist; quote excerpt taken from “One to One with Gloria” interview after The 3rd Annual Emmy Awards, The Plaza Hotel, New York City, June 25, 2013

Pavlina Osta is young, beautiful, brilliant, sophisticated and eclectic -- from ballet dancer and steel-drum player to tween radio host and celebrity interviewer -- known by many as "girl on the go," and oh the places she will go. Theodor Suess Geisel (Dr. Suess) must be very proud. To say Pavlina Osta, “rising journalist,” is going places would be an understatement.

Below is the latest video, 'One to One with Gloria' and Pavlina Osta, Fifteen Year Old Celebrity Interviewer/Journalist after The Elly Awards at The Plaza Hotel, New York City on June 25, 2013.

When I first saw Pavlina Osta at the press area, I thought, is she with her mother? I was quickly impressed and inspired to meet with her and quickly learn of her many talents -- ballet dancer and steel-drum player to tween radio/TV show host, celebrity interviewer, and with lots more in-between – there is magic, power and positivity in the world of digital and the internet for kids, tweens and teenagers -- with parental guidance, of course.

Besides communicating, sharing photos, simple tweets, other social, etc., the world of digital and the internet can be an amazing experience in helping children of all ages explore, learn, and make dreams come true.

After meeting fifteen year old celebrity interviewer and rising journalist, Pavlina Osta, during The 3rd Annual Elly Awards I just had to interview her and share this amazing “One to One” with you.

On Tuesday, June 25, 2013, "The 3rd Annual Elly Awards Benefitting the Education Fund of The Women's Forum of New York" was held at The Plaza Hotel in New York City to honor Maria Cuomo Cole, Advocate, activist, filmmaker and Chair of HELP USA and Pat Mitchell, President and CEO of the Paley Center for Media.

Cole was honored for her contributions as advocate, activist and filmmaker and for her lasting impact on several of the leading issues of our day, and Mitchell for her unparalleled career -- both in front of the camera and behind it -- as an award-winning career journalist, producer and executive.

The Elly Award recognizes extraordinary and often heroic effort in overcoming adversity and the most daunting of odds in restructuring lives for success. Grants are awarded to women over the age of 35 who, after suffering great adversity and an interruption in their education, are now pursuing undergraduate college degrees. Students in this population are often single parents, economically disadvantaged and struggling with the rising costs of a college education. Over the past 26 years, 141 women have been honored by The Education Fund.

The Women’s Forum of New York is New York's premier organization of women leaders comprised of the highest women achievers across all professional sectors from finance to fine arts. For more information visit https://www.womensforumny.org/

The Education Fund of the Women's Forum provides annual Awards to encourage mature women of need to fulfill their potential through the pursuit of an undergraduate college education and to enhance their capacities to provide productive and supportive service to their communities. http://www.womensforumny.org/index.cfm/education-fund/

Award winning actress, Glenn Close and former New York First Lady Matilda Raffa Cuomo presented the key awards. Tony Award winning playwright, activist and author of the “Vagina Monologues” and “Emotional Creature,” Eve Ensler, lead a conversation on leadership with honorees Maria Cuomo Cole and Pat Mitchell.

The stellar event was held at NYC’s finest landmark, The Plaza Hotel, world reknown for timeless elegance, history, and palatial architecture. Stay tuned for exciting “one to one” interviews with honorees Maria Cuomo Cole, Pat Mitchell, and presenters Glenn Close. Additionally I was privileged to meet and interview with Irene Cohen, Founder/Former President of The Education Fund and Partner at Cohen and Miners and Beverly Beaudoin, President of The Education Fund of the Women’s Forum.

Amazing takeaway was the honor to meet and interview with Governor Mario Cuomo and First Lady of New York, Matilda Cuomo.

Cyndi Lauper turns 60; Doesn't look a day over 30 - Happy B-Day to you

“I lucked out when I started to sing. I'd already experienced failing at everything else…I absolutely refuse to reveal my age. What am I - a car?”
~~ Cyndi Lauper

American singer, songwriter, actress and LGBT rights activist.

To hear Cyndi Lauper's signature Queens New York accent, see her curly to spiked trendy hair-dos of ever-changing colors from pastel hues to flaming reds, you understand how her fashion flair and eclectic style top her complete head-to-toe pop icon status. Cyndi Lauper is the epitome of individual expression, philanthropy and accomplishment -- thanks to Lauper, there are many firsts for women including her latest -- Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the Tony Awards in Radio City Music Hall, New York City -- legendary Lauper became the first women ever to win (exclusively without any co-writers, co-composers, etc.) the prestigious Tony Award for best original score (music & lyrics) for Broadway’s “Kinky Boots” which won 5 other Tony Awards.
"... I can't say I wasn't practicing in front of the shower curtain for a couple of days for this speech," an emotional Lauper said as she accepted her Tony Award.
She stressed her hard work ethics and how inspired she was by the "Kinky Boots" folks, then thanked her family, producer Harvey Fierstein, and fellow nominees. "...I wrecked all her Broadway musicals when I was a kid, the cast albums. That's how I learned how to sing..." Lauper explained thanks to her mother.
Legendary Lauper has been producing so many meaningful lyrics about acceptance and individuality, and after seeing her in person at a recent fundraiser where she was among the honorees, she doesn’t look a day over 30. Happy birthday Cyndi Lauper! Happy birthday to you! Thanks for all you do for women.

Born Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper on June 22nd in Ozone Park, Queens, New York City. Her father, Fred Lauper, was of German and Swiss descent and her mother, Catrine, Italian American (from Sicily).

She has an older sister, Elen, and a younger brother, Fred (nicknamed Butch).

Photo right of Cyndi Lauper on the red carpet, Honoree at Women Who Care Gala, NYC on May 6, 2013, by Gloria Buono-Daly.

Lauper first achieved success in the early 1980s with the release of her debut solo album She's So Unusual in 1983, which was an instant commercial success. It spawned four top five hits on the Billboard Hot 100—"Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "Time After Time", "She Bop", and "All Through the Night".

It became the first album in history recorded by a female artist to achieve this, and earned Lauper the Best New Artist award at the 27th Grammy Awards in 1985. Her success continued with True Colors in 1986, which included two Billboard Hot 100 hits: The number one "True Colors" and "Change of Heart", which peaked at number 3. She also earned two nominations at the 29th Grammy Awards in 1987.

In January 2010, American toy company Mattel released a Cyndi Lauper Barbie doll as part of their "Ladies of the 80s" series.

In March 2010, NBC began airing the ninth season of The Celebrity Apprentice featuring Lauper and other celebrities such as Sharon Osbourne and Bret Michaels. The show had been filmed from October 19, 2009 to November 12, 2009. Donald Trump fired her on the May 9, 2010, episode, leaving her in sixth place. Lauper donated her winnings to her own True Colors Fund. In the season finale, she performed her upcoming album Memphis Blues in front of the boardroom live.

Lauper has been married to David Thornton since 1991. They have one son, Declyn Wallace Thornton (born 1997). Lauper was raised Roman Catholic and attended Catholic school. She refers to herself as a "Recovering Catholic.”

On June 24, 2012, Lauper appeared as a Grand Marshall for the annual Gay Pride Parade in New York City. She also discussed the contributions of her organization the "True Colors fund" to the LGBT community, and later performed that evening for a Pride event as well.

Lauper composed music for the musical show Kinky Boots with Harvey Fierstein, based on the 2006 independent film "Kinky Boots". The musical opened in Chicago in October 2012 and on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on April 4, 2013. The musical leads the 2013 Tony Awards with 13 nominations including best original score. In May Lauper won for best score for Kinky Boots at the 63th annual awards by New York’s Outer Critics Circle, the show also won Best musical and Best Actor for Billy Porter.

Lauper made international news in March 2011 while waiting for a delayed flight at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires. There, she gave an impromptu performance of Girls Just Want to Have Fun, as other passengers joined in and sang along with her. A video of the performance was later posted on YouTube.

Will Google celebrate Lauper’s 60th with a doodle?

Happy 104th Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16, 2013

"It is a wise father that knows his own child."
~~ William Shakespeare

(1564 – 1616), English poet and playwright, greatest writer in the English language, world's pre-eminent dramatist, often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon"; quote taken from The Merchant of Venice. Act II. Scene II

Happy 104th Father’s Day! Did you know that the first Father’s Day celebration was in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910? Many countries celebrate it on the third Sunday of June, but it is also celebrated widely on other days. Google celebrated Father's Day with an interactive doodle that shows dads in many different roles with a simple click.

Father's Day was created to complement Mother's Day, a celebration that honors mothers and motherhood. In addition to Father's Day, International Men's Day is celebrated in many countries on November 19 for men and boys who are not fathers.

For those of us whose dads are no longer with us, (an estimate of about 100 million folks in the U.S.A.) and for the many more who still have their dad, there are so many things to do to keep his memory in your heart. Do things that your dad loved and things that brought out the best as well as visiting your dad's friends and family.
(photo left courtesy of freedigitalphotos.com)

I have so many fond memories as a child with my dad and other family members at the Jersey Shore that I was inspired to write a short story in memory of my dad, “The Painting Ballerina".

The short story (published in 1999) was about a young girl by the sea who with the help of her animal friends, creates a new art form “ paint-dancing.”

The Founder and CEO of real estate firm, City Connections, David Schlamm, was interviewed by his oldest daughter, Emma, on the firm’s 25th anniversary.

The article, titled Schlamm Dunk: City Connections Turns 25! celebrates her dad and discusses his thoughts on the success of his 25 years with his company.

Integrated Marketing Week 2013 Conference & Expo: DAY 1 informs and explores

Professionals in all walks of digital and integrated marketing, publishing, and advertising gathered at Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th Street in NYC for an information-packed "DAY 1" of Integrated Marketing Week 2013 Conference .

This exciting event got quickly off to a magnificent start with Seth Godin, you know that marketing extraordinaire, squidoo.com founder and author of 17 worldwide-bestselling books. Godin's keynote addressed the importance of being noticed especially in times of volatile economic market conditions.

Godin also had his latest book "V is for Vulnerable – Life Outside the Comfort Zone" and was available after the keynote for autographs.” Godin has been known as the stand out marketer ever since his “Purple Cow” book was published a decade ago (May 2003); I still have my autographed copy.

There was plenty of networking opportunities in-between choices of 3 out of the 18 session offerings for Day 1. (Day 2 will also feature 18 sessions and Day 3 will have about a dozen sessions). Integrated marketing is a very broad but integral ingredient for marketers in all areas particularly retail, ecommerce, and publishing.

There was a wealth of strategic marketing topics covered today including the importance of shifting from informing to engaging and from business intelligence to email intelligence. This holds particularly true with the multi-platforms and channels developed and implemented on a constant basis.

Did you know that email intelligence platforms can find out many things including why an email campaign is failing? And also determine when emails are landing in spam folders? The “Email is getting Smarter, Are You?” session with Tami Forman, Return Path’s Senior Director, Global Corporate Communications, shared insights on that and much more on why email intelligence is crucial to marketing success today.

Integrated Marketing Week "DAY 1" intrigued and inspired many top marketers and gave me the opportunity to meet and interview three stellar integrated marketeering professionals: Lynne Laube, President and Co-Founder of Cardlytics; Stefan Tornquist, Vice President of Research, North America, Econsultancy; and Shane Marcus, Business Development Manager at Rapp.

Laube described her innovative product, Cardlytics, a real-time marketing analytics platform for consumer purchase behavior for 70% of U.S. households which answers the question many marketers need - “Where do your customers buy…when they’re not buying from you?” Their product creates a seamless, consumer experience, helps retailers deliver targeted messages and offers to the right people based on where and how they are spending money.

Tornquist, Econsultancy VP, described key challenges to integration and shared findings from the “2013 Integrated Marketing Week Survey” which addressed questions and answers from hundreds of marketing practitioners insights. The main focus is research around what is happening in digital marketing. Tornquist also discussed A Manifesto for Modern Marketing,” virtually a 12 point guideline to what is modern marketing. "One of the interesting findings is that when comparing sophisticated with unsophisticated marketers, findings were that the true essence of modern marketing was exactly what the sophisticated marketers found to be their top challenging element -- creativity over strategy and technology," explained Tornquist.

Shane Marcus, Business Development Manager at Rapp, described Rapp as the customer experience agency. Marcus also described how his company has evolved from its direct marketing roots 50 years ago in 30 countries and creates customer experiences by harnessing big data that are inspired by culture and enabled by technology -- bringing the ultimate customer experiences for their clients -- Fortune 500 and 1000 companies.

“...The participation of events like this – people like Howard Cross from the world of sports and people like Ken Fisher from the business community, who are really doing such great things to help members of the military, veterans and their families – bring the whole topic much more into the mainstream and gives us the ability to help the millions of people who desperately need the assistance…” ~~ Kevin Danehy,Chair MHA-NYC; Executive Chairman, Brookfield Global Relocation Services, Inc.

It was all kind hearts and gentle minds on Thursday, June 6, 2013, as guests gathered in New York City to attend MHA-NYC “Where There is Help, There is Hope” Gala hosted by Howard Cross, Former NY Giant Tight End, and Senior Vice President at Cresa NY.

Because psychological wounds can be as painful and debilitating as the physical injuries sustained in war, the importance of mental well being of our nation’s veterans and military is crucial. To serve America’s veterans, MHA-NYC has partnered with government to provide life-saving programs such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the Veterans’ Crisis Line. These lines respond to hundreds of thousands of calls for help each year.

Honorable Eric K. Shinseki, U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs presented the Award to Gala Honoree, philanthropic leader, Kenneth Fisher, of Fisher Brothers, and founder of Fisher Houses, a network of 60 "homes away from home" for military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.

The full house event was held at the spectacular, palatial, Cipriani at 42nd Street right in the heart of New York City.

There were over 450 attendees among special guests who read like a “who’s who” in philanthropy, business, leadership, media, humanitarianism, and entrepreneurship. Photos of the event at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151622067251435.1073741833.794796434&type=1&l=dd524bea9a
