March 21, 2012 - Happy 50th B-Day to Rosie O’Donnell! Hoorah, you've reached the BIG 050!

“If you survive long enough, you're revered-rather like an old building."
                          ~~ Katherine Hepburn (May 12, 1907 – June 29, 2003) American icon, actress
of film, stage, and television. Also known for her headstrong independence.

Did you know that on March 21, 2012 Rosie O’Donnell turns 050 years young? A Very Happy Birthday to you, Rosie!

I was very fortunate to get a second opportunity to briefly speak with O'Donnell at last year's Matrix Awards. On top of everything else, O'Donnell is market savvy and a true professional. While I was taking photos of her with many of her fans (of course using their respective cameras) she mentioned her new program, The Rosie Show on Oprah’s OWN where she shared her intrigueing insights.

Rosie believes that there are many promotional tie-ins and sponsorships that can make a big difference if they were targeted more to an audience.
"I will be turning 50 in March, and I think there are a lot of opportunities for promotions and sponsorship tie-ins. What I want to see more of is create corporate sponsorships that are more more relevant," said O'Donnell. "What I mean is to tie in how you get corporations to not just give anything away… but to make it more believeable and real. There are a lot of things sponsors are able to do," continued O'Donnell. One of her visions is to consider focusing a program on a particular group (age group for example) and then choosing respective sponsors/products specifically for that age group. “Let’s say we have an audience of 70 year olds, we can give the audience Geritol, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geritol -- whatever,” said O'Donnell. Incidentally, for those very young folks not familiar with Geritol, Geritol was originally introduced as an alcohol-based, iron and B vitamin tonic by Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (in August 1950) and primarily marketed as such into the 1970s? Follow this link for more information about last years Matrix event 2011 and do stay tuned to Matrix 2012:

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Try My Irish Soda Bread Easy 1-2-3 Recipe

"A best friend is like a four leaf clover : hard to find and lucky to have!"
                                                                                                                         ~ Anonymous Irish Quote

Slàinte
(pronounced: slawncha, like "lawn-chair" but with an "s" in front of it, is how one would say Cheers in Irish Gaelic)
My favorite Irish soda bread, as posted last year.
Happy Saint Pat's Day!
This year it's Saturday, March 17th!

Like many households on Saint Patrick's Day, in the center of our breakfast table you will find tasty, Irish, soda bread to celebrate the luck and charm of the Irish. I baked this easy Irish soda bread earlier today and just had to share my easy recipe by posting on my blogs. The great thing about this is the prep time was slightly less than 5 minutes and it baked in an hour.
INGREDIENTS:
► Flour 3 1/2 cups
► Sugar 3/4 to 1 cup (or try sugarfree alternatives; e.g., splenda or equal)
► Baking powder 1 tablespoon
► Eggs 2 medium size
► Milk 1 cup
► Melted butter - 1 stick
OPTIONAL:
► Raisins 1 cup
► Caraway seeds 2 tablespoons
► Be imaginative. I used Flax Seeds

Step 1 : Soda Bread Dough (3 min)
► Prepare oven at 375°; In large bowl combine dry ingredients
► Flour
► Sugar
► Baking Powder
► Optional ingredients - I added 1/2 teaspoon Flax seeds
► Add remaining ingredients - Milk, Eggs, Melted Butter

Step 2 : Knead Dough (2 min)
► Knead dough and divide the dough into 2 round loaves
► Sprinkle flour if dough is too moist and sticky
► Using a cake knife, mark the top of each dough loaf with an X

Step 3 : Place loaves in 375° oven (60 min)
► Wait at least 10 minutes before slicing

Total time - 1 Hour and 5 Minutes

Google Enhances Organic Search Semantically

"On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog."
~~Peter Steiner, author, cartoonist and contributor to The New Yorker

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, Technology section (today, 3/15/2012), within the next few months, Google will be enhancing its search algorithm and providing more relevant information to organic search results. Semantically, search results issues are due to the arbitrary nature of language/keywords and the barrage of irrelevancy arising from this.

This latest enhancement purports to provide a more humanly-intuitive Web world for searchers including answering questions instead of receiving more links thus avoiding arbitrary irrelevancy … "we cross our fingers and hope there's a Web page out there with the answer," says Mr. Singhal, a top Google search executive (see WSJ article by Amir Efrati). More information can be found online at Wall Street Journal, Google Gives Search a Refresh.

Will this Impact Privacy? According to an earlier WSJ interview back in 2010 with Google CEO, Eric Schmidt on the issue of privacy, "I actually think most people don't want Google to answer their questions, they want Google to tell them what they should be doing next," said Schmidt (WSJ, Google and the Search for the Future, August 14, 2010 by Holman W. Jenkins Jr.) Would this be contradictory? Privacy issues do not matter to Google, but what about the rest of the Web world? Incidentally, Privacy International ranked Google as "Hostile to Privacy", its lowest rating on its report, making Google the only company on the list to receive the lowest ranking.

On a higher note, The Doodle 4 Google 2012 competition is now open to all K-12 students in U.S. schools (including home-schoolers). Completed entry forms must be received by March 23rd, and pre-registration is no longer required! Google is asking students to exercise their creative imaginations in real "Dr. Suessesque style" around the theme, "If I could travel in time, I'd visit…" and I might add "Oh the Places You'll Go..."

The Doodle 4 Google Competition (the “Contest”) is designed to encourage eligible U.S. school students (“Entrant(s)” or “You”) to use their creativity to create their own interpretation of the Google logo. Judges will choose the winning entries, and prizes will be awarded in accordance with these Official Rules (the “Rules”). Spread the news by sharing this Doodle 4 Google 2012 competition link.

This year, The New York Public Library and Crayola are partnering with Google for this year's Doodle 4 Google contest.
The one lucky student artist will see his/her artwork appear on the Google homepage and take home some prizes--and as a special bonus, the winning artwork will appear on a limited edition of Crayola's iconic 64 box!

March 8th - Celebrate Happy 101st Anniversary to International Women's Day!

Happy 101st Anniversary to International Women's Day! Also, did you know that March is Women's History Month? International Women's Day (IWD), originally coined International Working Women’s Day, is marked on March 8th every year. The UN theme for International Women’s Day 2012 is "Empower Women – End Hunger and Poverty." In many countries, International Women's Day is an occasion to honor and praise women for their accomplishments. In 2012, Oxfam America is inviting people to celebrate inspiring women in their lives by sending a free International Women’s Day e-Card or honoring a woman whose efforts make a difference in the fight against hunger and poverty with Oxfam’s International Women’s Day award. International Women's Day is an annual day observed in many nations around the world on March 8 each year. (Jumping Woman photo above by kongsky / freedigitalphotos.net)

President Barack Obama proclaimed March 2011 to be "Women's History Month", calling Americans to mark IWD by reflecting on "the extraordinary accomplishments of women" in shaping the country's history. Also, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton launched the "100 Women Initiative: Empowering Women and Girls through International Exchanges", on the eve of IWD.

Last year, events took place in more than 100 countries on (March 8, 2011) to commemorate the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day.
Kudos to all women for all we do!
