Happy 15th B-Day Google! 'Evergreen marketing insights' ▲▲▲
by Gloria Buono-Daly

Surprise to Google who turned 15 years old today (9/27/2013 and not 9/4/2013 as many of us once thought). Last year Google posted its very own Happy 14th B-Day doodle! Will they have a cool animated doodle this year to celebrate? Yes they sure will. This year Google created a very creative piñata game. Simply hit the swaying piñata with your keyboard space key and earn points. I just did. Below are snapshots of the animated pinata new doodle.

So let's all celebrate Google’s B-Day.

Ever since Google was born (September 27, 1998), there have been whirlwinds of internet momentum, controversy, and innovation.

Google doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon. Google has created and acquired so much since it’s 14th B-Day.

Of the total 127 acquisitions Google has to date, 34.6% (44)were made from 2011 to present.

Interestingly, from February 12, 2001 through June 2013 (13 B-Day cycles) Google has on average, roughly 9.7 acquisitions per year (127 total divided by 13 years).

Below is a listing of acquisitions since it’s 13th B-Day, Sept. 27, 2011:

● Sept.   7, 2011 – Zave Networks, digital coupons for Google Offers program
● Sept.   8, 2011 – Zagat, restaurant reviews for Google Maps and Places programs

To think it took Larry Page and Sergey Brin less than 2 years to incorporate Google -- in 1996, both were PhD students at Stanford University, working on a research project when Yahoo! and AOL were the major search engines.

Fifteen years later Google has embarked on hundreds, if not thousands of innovations, ventures and acquisitions. Below is a brief timeline of my most notable Google milestones (note clicking on the table below, and then once again, will enlarge for viewing):

This chart (as of last year, 9/4/2011) has not been updated with the latest additions listed above. Will try to update soon. Bookmark this blog and visit frequently. Thanks!

HBO wins most awards at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards - September 22, 2013

"Take your pants off … I come to the awards show for the twerking…"
~~ Tina Fey, 2013 Primetime Emmy winner, American actress, comedian, writer and producer, known for her work on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live (SNL, 1997–2006), the critically acclaimed NBC comedy series 30 Rock (2006–2013).nt>
“No. Stop. No. I am not twerking. I am not gonna do that. That would be degrading,”
~~Neil Patrick Harris, American actor, producer, singer, and director as quoted while hosting 65th Emmy Awards, responding to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
"It might be degrading but we would be degrateful,"
~~ Amy Poehler , American actress, comedian, voice artist, producer and writer.

Over 17.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards, presented by The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris on CBS at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, according to Nielsen ratings. This represents an increase of 33% over last year. Also, the increase comprised 25% more young viewers, 18-49, than last year. The Primetime Emmy awards represent TV’S best performances for the year.

Of the total 97 Primetime Emmy Awards, HBO won the most at 27, with Behind The Candelabra leading all programming with 11 awards and Boardwalk winning 5 awards. 'Breaking Bad' won its first Primetime Emmy for Best Drama and 'Modern Family' won for Best Comedy for the fourth year, consecutively.

Claire Danes took home the award for Best Actress in a Drama for the second year, consecutively.

Merritt Wever was practically speechless, saying only “I have to go now,” as she accepted her Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy award for her role as Zoey Barkow on Nurse Jackie. Bobby Cannavale won for his role as Gyp Rosetti in Boardwark for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series. First Primetime Emmy awards and second nominations for both Wever and Cannavale.

Besides the winners, highlights began at the very beginning of the program as Amy Poehler and Tina Fey were in true comedic form telling Harris “ take your pants off and twerk,” and then crawling up on the stage to present the first Primetime Emmy award of the evening, Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series.

“Look, if Amy and Tina want you to take off your pants, you take off your damn pants!” responded Kevin Spacey (Netflix’s hit “House of Cards"), as he turned and addressed the camera as House Majority Whip Francis Underwood, fictional character he plays on the show.

Steve Colbert’s acceptance speech included a thank you to his wife for being “so cruel & sexy.”

Mike Douglas accepted the award for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie and gave one of the most exciting acceptance speeches. He included a big thank you to Matt Damon and continued “…The only reason I’m standing here is because of you (Damon). You really deserve half of this. Do you want the bottom or the top of the award” continued Douglas. Damon replied that he wanted the top part. Douglas also gave a shout out to his oldest son, Cameron.

Douglas has had so much drama in his life at 69 years old, from his recovery from cancer and recent separation with his wife of 13 years,Catherine Zeta Jones, to his oldest son, Cameron in prison. He and Zeta Jones also share the same birthday, September 25th.

Neil Patrick Harris performed a spectacular song and dance routine at halftime with the Emmy Gold Dancers, “The Number In the Middle of the Show.”

Chicago native, Bob Newhart received a standing ovation for winning a first Emmy Award of his career. He actually received his award, for creative last week however he received a standing ovation while at the podium as presenter.

Another highlight was when Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, both nominees for Behind the Candelabra, announced special performance by Elton John who celebrated and honored Liberace with a song about going home called “Home Again.”

Very funny moment at the very end was when Will Ferrell, presented the last two awards delivering in top comedic form. On stage with his 3 children – all 4 were dressed in recreation gear, shorts, sneakers and all.
“Unfortunately Helen Mirren and Maggie Smith dropped out at the last second and they called me literally 45 minutes ago. And I couldn’t find child care, okay, and we had a soccer game, and there was a neighbor’s birthday party, a nut allergy, I didn’t have time to do my hair. It doesn’t matter it’s great to be here,” a hilarious Ferrell explained.

Fashion trend was less about black and red with pastels the most popular trend from pale champagnes worn by Claire Danes (Armani Prive design) Kerry Washington (Marchesa), January Jones (Givenchy) and Julia Louis Dreyfuss (Monique Lhuillier).

Pale blues were also popular and were worn by by Zooey Deschanel (J.Mendel) and Emily Deschanel (Houghton) as were cobalt saphires worn by Tina Fey (Narciso Rodriguez), Allison Williams (Ralph Lauren).

Sophia Vergara (Vera Wang) adorned in a red lace mermaid gown while German supermodel, Heidi Klum (Versace), wore a red pomegranade jeweled gown. Kelly Cuoco wore burgundy (Vera Wang).

Amy Poehler was stunning in a black gown (Basler). Red carpet gallery photos at NY Daily News http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/emmy-awards-2013-red-carpet-gallery-1.1464156 and at The Hollywood Reporter http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/gallery/emmy-awards-2013-red-carpet-634034#64-tina-fey

Carrie Underwood, who appeared to sing a bit off key at the start of performing the Beatles song “Yesterday,” wore purple, and still performed amazingly. Many were tweeting about this off key incident during and after the performance.

Below is the complete listing of the total 98 Primetime Emmy Award winners along with nominees. Winner for each category is listed first with respective nominees following.
