Q. What does it mean to you to be a part of the leading industry event, SES New York 2013 Conference? How does it make you feel to be invited as speaker?

A. It's a great honor and a compelling event. The networking and content is top notch and you can't beat New York City in the spring.

Q. Where do you believe the majority of email marketers are today on the social media marketing learning curve for “The New Inbox” and why?

A. Email marketers have embraced social media as their best wingman and vice versa. As I wrote in my ClickZ article “Why Email Is Like Madonna and Facebook Is Lady Gaga,” Email marketers don’t need to know every detail of what works well for social media and the same goes with social media and their understanding of every technical element of an email campaign. What they both need to understand is how their customers use each channel and how as marketers each channel should be leveraged with an eye on integration. Many of our clients have wildly successful social media programs because of their email efforts in building up the social channel. You take email away and social loses some of its scale and power.

Q. Where should the majority of email marketers be today in order for their email campaign/s to be successfully integrated? (In other words, what main element should all email marketers have/be doing to integrate social media marketing regardless of their budget and product/service?)

A. Email marketers should always have specific business goals in mind and how they can deliver them to their subscribers. Some email marketers may leverage mobile, some social and some offline media to better deliver a good user experience and one that can move the needle forward on the business front.

Q. What are the two MUST HAVE social media marketing tools for email marketers?

A. I would argue the tools are irrelevant - what they need to have is a good understanding of what social media can do for their email program and how their email program can drive social. With of course an understanding that the customer is the focus of each and therefore relevant content and offers are delivered.

Q. What do you think is going the most important take away your audience can expect from your segment “The New Inbox: The Intersection of Email, Mobile and Social Marketing . How do you plan on conveying that message at your session?

A. Event preview video of the SES New York 2013 Conference featuring speaker Simms Jenkins was produced by AllThingsDigitalMarketing.com Event preview interview by AllThingsDigitalMarketing.com. Information for this video was from audio recordings from Q&A interviews and was produced with Adobe After Effects software by Maria Benevenga, Senior Design Specialist and Creative Extraordinaire.

  1. Our visit was just amazing, five stars plus. Though it was funny how some people were in rush for catching some movie. I believe it was a treat to be here.
